SUTTON COMPLETE COMEBACK AGAINST STEVENAGE

League Two review of weekend 15th of January 2022 featuring Sutton United and Stevenage


In the game of the weekend in League Two, Sutton managed to come from two goals down to salvage a draw courtesy of a 98th minute equaliser from Richard Bennett. Relegation threatened Stevenage put themselves in a great position in the first half, being 2-0 up inside the opening 40 minutes thanks to goals from Norris and Reid. Second half goals from Smith, Milsom and Bennett was enough to see Sutton come away from the Lamex Stadium with a point, leaving them 5th in the table. Richard Bennett’s late goal off the bench was enough to see him earn man of the match for his side with a, 8.32, Milson, Ajiboye and Smith all scored highly too for Sutton. Jamie Reid’s brace was enough to see him with the highest rating across both sides, with an impressive 8.65.

The league’s in-form side Mansfield continued their charge into the play-off as they racked up a 5th successive win, this time a 2-0 victory over Walsall. Harry Charsley came off the bench to score both goals to give the Stags all 3 points and secure a 7.98 from fans. Stephen Quinn and George Maris impressed too both scoring 7.65’s for their afternoons work. It was an afternoon to forget for the Saddlers, who’s afternoon never got going. Stephen Ward and Emmanuel Osadebe took the brunt of the disappointment, who scored lowly 4.98 and a 4.65 respectively.

Dominic Telford continued to tear up the division with another brace as Newport dismantled Harrogate Town 4-0. The forward has 18 goals in 17 for his side and is leading the goalscoring charts despite playing 7 less games than Forest Green’s Jamille Matt who sits second with 15 goals. In a win that moved Newport up to 6th it was the manner of the performance that will have pleased fans most. Demetriou got the Exiles off to a great start inside 8 minutes as he despatched a spot kick. Telford then scored two in the space of 6 minutes either side of half-time in the 43rd and 49thminute, before Baker-Richardson completed the scoring in the 55th. Demetriou and Josh Pask scored highly with fans, scoring a 7.79 and 7.19, but it was of course Dominic Telford who stole the show and was scored an 8.19 for his impressive goal scoring form.
