In another weekend of Premier League action plagued by postponements due to Covid-19, Man City sealed top spot for Christmas.
Pep Guardiola’s side have been in unbelievable form of late and against a struggling Newcastle they were comfortable 0-4 winners. A horrible mix up between Martin Dubravka (3.98) and Ciaran Clark (3.48) gave Ruben Dias (7.84) an easy goal to put City one up. Joao Cancelo (7.98) was exceptional yet again, he provided the assist for Dias and then scored a screamer himself. Riyad Mahrez and Rajeev Sterling (both 6.98) then ended fantastic team moves scoring the third and fourth in a tough day for Newcastle.
Leeds are struggling at the moment and were smashed by Arsenal 1-4. Marcelo Bielsa’s men were without a number of key players due to injuries but defended poorly especially in the first half as Arsenal ran riot. Gabriel Martinelli (8.24) scored two goals in the game building on his recent fine goal scoring run. Bukayo Saka (7.74) and Emile Smith-Rowe were also on the scoresheet. Noticeably, Smith-Rowe scored off the bench once again being kept out of the team by Martin Odegaard (7.49) who put in another classy display for the side in fourth place.
It was all action in North London as Spurs and Liverpool played out a 2-2 draw. In a match that involved controversial refereeing decisions regarding red cards and penalties, Antonio Conte’s side were unlucky not to win the game. Harry Kane (5.49), who was perhaps lucky to stay on the pitch after a reckless tackle, scored his first home goal of the season but Spurs had plenty of other great chances prior to Diogo Jota’s (7.19) equaliser. Liverpool did lead briefly when Andy Robertson (6.99), who was later sent off, headed home from close range. Alisson (6.24) was fantastic in goal for Liverpool denying Dele Alli and Son Heung-Min (6.49) but he made a costly mistake while attempting to be a ‘sweeper keeper’ allowing Son to tap home into an empty net.
Leeds 1-4 Arsenal
Wolves 0-0 Chelsea
Newcastle 0-4 Man City
Tottenham 2-2 Liverpool
