FULHAM HIT BRISTOL CITY FOR SIX

Championship review from weekend 15th of January 2022 featuring Fulham and Bristol City

Fulham went top of the Championship with a 6-2 demolition of Bristol City as the now second place Bournemouth lost to Luton Town 3-2.

There was a remarkable first half at Craven Cottage as Fulham came from behind twice to end the half 5-2 up. Aleksandar Mitrovic continued his unbelievably good form this season scoring a hat-trick and rating at 7.98. The Serbian took his tally to 27 goals already as Fulham bullied Bristol City, who conceded four goals from set pieces. The quality of Mitrovic is undeniable but Neeskens Kebano also scored twice, and Tom Cairney registered two assists getting 7.48 ratings. Free-scoring Fulham beat Reading 7-0 in midweek, and they now notched 64 times this season, that is 20 more than second highest scorers Blackburn. Both of the Robins' goals were by Antoine Semenyo who recorded a 7.48.

Elsewhere, Luton shocked Bournemouth in the early kick off via a 97th minute goal that sparked jubilant scenes as Luton won it 3-2. Kai Naismith bent one in picking his spot from outside the box after latching on to a loose ball to rate at a brilliant 8.99. It was an all-round excellent performance from the Hatters, the average score Luton players received was 7.41 compared to Bournemouth's disappointing 5.80. The thriller got a match rating of 9.33, meaning surely it was the best game in the Championship this season! Manager Nathan Jones slid on his knees when Naismith scored the winner, and the boss got an 8.33 rating for his tactics.

At The Den, it was the battle of the play-off chasing sides as Millwall welcomed Nottingham Forest. There was more late drama as captain Lewis Grabban, 7.98, grabbed the winning goal in stoppage time to seal a 0-1 win. Millwall began the better side, but Forest grew into the game and things looked to be heading to a stalemate following Lions goalkeeper Bartosz Bialkowski making some great saves but Grabban pounced after the goalkeeper, who got a 6.98 rating, saved well again to punish Millwall.
