BLACKBURN TAKE BIG STEP IN PLAY-OFF BATTLE

Championship review from weekend 27th of November featuring - Blackburn Rovers and Stoke City

Stoke City suffered a 1-0 defeat at home to fellow play-off hopefuls Blackburn courtesy of a goal from Khadra in the second half.

It was a tight and well contested affair at the bet365 Stadium. It was just the second time this season Stoke have lost at home. The goal came from Ben Wilmot clearance which deflected off John Buckley into Khadra’s path who then did superbly going past two players and firing into the bottom left from 20 yards. It was Khadra who impressed for his input in an exceptionally close affair, scoring a 7.98 from the Blackburn faithful.

One of the games of the weekend came at Swansea, as Reading visited and came away 3-2 victors on the day. Paterson got Swansea off to a perfect start in the 3rd minute before a swift reply a minute later by Dele-Bashiru levelled things. Reading’s new journeyman signing got off to a flyer for his new club as Andy Carroll got his first goal for Reading, courtesy of a Danny Drinkwater assist. It was Danny Drinker who won the match for Reading scoring a minute after Ryan Manning equalised for Swansea. Usurpingly this match scored a perfect 10 in match entertainment. With Danny Drinkwater and Andy Carroll getting the highest scores from fans, with 7.48’s each.

Monday had Derby face off against QPR with both teams having very different seasons. QPR find themselves up to third after Andre Gray scored one of the goals of the season in the last kick of the match, flicking the ball over his head before swivelling on the volley and firing into the top scoring to secure all 3 points for QPR. Tom Lawrence had given Derby the lead early, with a thunderous drive into the roof of the net. Christopher Willock got QPR back on level terms after excellent work down the left from Charlie Austin, the forward playing on the wing, beat his man and delivered an inch perfect cross to the back post where Willock met it first time and like Lawrence fired into the roof of the net. It was Austin and Willock who impressed most scoring 7.58’s from QPR fans.
