BIG GAMES IN CHAMPIONSHIP SURVIVAL AND PLAY-OFF RACES

Championship preview for weekend beginning 26th of November featuring - Stoke City, Blackburn Rovers, Barnsley and Peterborough United

In the Championship this weekend there are two tight matches between competing contenders in both the race for survival and the battle for a play-off place. Stoke in sixth host Blackburn in seventh with just one point separating the play-off rivals after 19 games played, whilst down at the other end of the table Barnsley visit Peterborough looking to close a 4-point gap to their opponents on Saturday, with both clubs currently occupying a spot in the relegation zone. The Posh are just two points away from climbing out of the drop zone, so will want Reading to slip up in their trip to Wales to face Swansea.

Players In Form

Unsurprisingly, Fulham’s Aleksandar Mitrovic is one of the first names on the list of highest rated players in the Championship this season. The Serbian menace is the Champ’s top scorer this season with a mega 21 goals in just 18 appearances, averaging 1.21 goals per 90 minutes this season and the 27-year-old is fully deserving of his overall rating of 7.43 this season. Even we think that’s a little low considering the consistency with which he has performed in a dominant season. Preston’s defenders will not be looking forward to facing the striker in Saturday’s early kick off.

Mitrovic’s direct rivals for the golden boot award are in action in the traditional 3pm kick offs on Saturday. Dominic Solanke and his Bournemouth cohorts will face a tough test in visiting Coventry City, who are having an excellent season and currently sit 5th in the table. Solanke has scored 15 goals in 19 appearances this season, and is the Cherries’ best performer so far this season according to the fans, averaging a 7.23 for the season so far. He will be battling Coventry’s best performer Matt Godden who has popped up in crucial moments late in games to win games for the Sky Blues, with Cov fans delighted with his impact, averaging a 7.02 for the season.

Ben Brereton-Diaz has been sensational for Blackburn Rovers this season and splits Mitrovic and Solanke in the top scorers chart, currently 2nd with 16 goals from 19 appearances. His form hasn’t been quite so rewarded by fans though, with a 6.98 overall rating the poorest of the top 3 scorers in the league, but still a respectable score. Perhaps a bit streaky, scoring goals in clumps rather than being as consistent as Mitrovic, Blackburn’s opponents Stoke will still have to be cautious not to give the Chilean international any opportunity to pounce, because he’ll most likely convert.
